To Whom This May Concern:

If you’re an artist, you know full well that the entertainment industry has a glass ceiling.  If you don”t have the backing of a rich white-collar executive, then you have had to deal with the glass ceiling.  This glass ceiling was set up so that they could make as much money as possible.  This is NOT conducive to the advancement of the human race.  This is NOT conducive to the pursuit of happiness.  And this is NOT conducive to the idea of everyone finding their greater purpose.  It’s obvious, for some reason, that certain people are not allowed to have success in this industry.

Look around you.  It seems that everywhere you look, there’s a successful artist.  On television, on the radio, on the internet.  You see their work, what they get paid thousands of dollars to make, while they spend a good portion of their free time staging photo ops and shoe shopping.  You probably think to yourself that you could do a better job.  Hey, I don’t doubt it.  You probably could!

One of the careers that I’m sure everyone has considered is that of the entertainer.  If you didn’t know better, you might think that competition isn’t very fierce, judging by the popularity of such lackluster music, formulaic movie scripts, and uninspired novels.  The truth is that competition is incredibly fierce in the entertainment industry.  There’s so much media out there to ingest, that it is impossible for one person to get to it all.  With countless bands, an influx of new writers and new independent movies premiering every day, there’s simply no excuse to be bored with entertainment in this day and age.

But some people are bored.  Some people are sick and tired of what the entertainment industry has to offer.  These people want to support up and coming bands, but they don’t have enough time or patience to go out and find it.  These people want to keep tabs on the independent movie scene, but they have no idea where to start, or they can’t afford to attend film festivals that are only held in certain regions.  To those people, I want to welcome you to a new era.  A historic new era.  It’s up to you if you want to be a part of this era or not.

When people look back on this in the history books, people will understand this as a time period when people started to experience the bliss of creating their own art.  Whether the art in question is independent music, low budget movies, poetry, or whatever, historians will recognize this as the era that featured the emergence of the independent artist as a powerful force.  I take no credit for this, but nevertheless, I recognize this as a pivotal moment, which is why I decided to launch my company at this time.

I’ve been spending most of my free time this year building this company.  This year holds big things for Swollen Thumb Entertainment.  March is when things are getting kicked up a notch.  This next month is when we start tackling the REAL issues of entertainment, and when we fulfill our promise to start PROVIDING our forms of entertainment.  I formally invite everyone to participate in the discussions that I have planned.  We’re going to ruffle a few feathers, and ask questions that the mainstream media is afraid to ask.  This letter officially kicks off our campaign.

I know that I’m not the only person who is ready to revolutionize the face of entertainment, so this is an official call to arms for every young, hungry artist out there who is ready to join the fight.  It’s time for you to put your fear and insecurity behind you.  The time has come to truly create something.  Stop letting the haters, and your so called loved ones destroy your hopes and dreams.  The time has come to stop letting your hopes be destroyed.  The time has come to make history.   Don’t do it for me.  Don’t do it for my company.  Do it for yourself, and do it for history.

Sincerely,

Trey Baird
