I Wish They Would Learn Their Place!

It seems like nobody knows their place anymore.  All these prima-donna celebrities who didn’t learn the lessons of the twentieth century that when you pick your career path, that you are supposed to stick with that path for the rest of your life until retirement.  After all, if you are stuck behind a desk doing the same thing day in and day out until the age of 65, then that means that everyone should be, damn it!

Rappers

The first thing that sticks out is rappers turned actors.  It’s bad enough that these people are actually making a living doing something that I could do if I wanted to, but choose not to.  They have to make it worse by tarnishing MY entertainment.  Keep in mind that I’m not referring to rappers such as Queen Latifah, Mark Wahlberg, or Will Smith because I like them. They weren’t real rappers anyway.  I’m referring to my selective choice of rapper/actors that I dislike for no reason such as Xzibit, Method Man, and The Game.  I believe that these people should learn their place, and stay in “da hood”.

Despite the fact that Elvis Preseley had 31 films, and there wasn’t anything forcing people to watch his films back in the day, I am a victim of the media frenzy, and I am basically forced to watch rappers invade my entertainment. I had to go through the same thing when Rob Zombie brought fans of shock rock and made them fans of shock cinema.  However, it didn’t bother me when Beyonce decided to become a movie star, because she’s kind of cute…

Actors

As far as actors, it would probably be easier to make a list of actors who HAVEN’T tried to launch a singing career.  Some of the more notable attempts though include Eddie Murphy, Russel Crowe, William Shatner, Lindsay Lohan, and Alanis Morisette.  This really annoys me, because I shouldn’t have to deal with their delusions of grandeur!  When I hear that one of my favorite actors has cut an album, and I am made to travel to Best Buy so that I can drop $15 on it, only to be disappointed by their lack of talent… they could save me SO much trouble if they learned their place and stayed in movies instead!

Wrestlers

Let’s not forget about the big trend a few years back where Pro Wrestlers suddenly wanted to be Pro Authors.  It all started with Mick Foley releasing an autobiography, and then it was followed by The Rock, Edge, Shawn Michaels, Stone Cold Steve Austin, Hulk Hogan, Lita, Dusty Rhodes, and Ric Flair.  Most of these were autobiographies, but that doesn’t take away from the fact that these were people, who were compelled to create something outside of their expertise, despite being well off in their original line of work.  I’d prefer it if these muscle-heads stayed in forms of media where I didn’t have to deal with them.  Except for Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson.  He’s cool.

Get To The Point…

At this point I shouldn’t have to tell you that I’m being sarcastic, but just case you didn’t get the point… I was being sarcastic.  Here, I’ve listed three categories of perfectly successful artists, who felt the urge to cross over into a completely different form of media. But why?

The need to have artists filed away neatly into categories is a product of insecurity on the behalf of the person who is making the criticism.  The people who would criticize an actor for launching a singing career, or a wrestler for writing a book are only jealous that they aren’t in the same position.  These people want to see these artists fail, and when they see that the artists are given opportunities that they wish they had, it enrages them.

If you don’t want to watch movies that have rappers in them, nobody is forcing you to! Don’t buy Paris Hilton’s new CD if you don’t want to.  Don’t pick up Mick Foley’s newest book if you want him to stay in the ring.  Don’t enable them if you hate it so much.  There’s so many resources available nowadays that you can be well aware of who’s in your tv shows, movies, and music before you enjoy them.  Start up an online petition or something if it bothers you so much.  You have a right to your opinion, just as I have a right to mine.  Just keep in mind that the resentment that you’re carrying is only hurting YOU.  Your resentment and hatred is only preventing you from enjoying your life to the fullest.  It would be better for you to live and let live, but hey, that’s your choice to make!

Lastly, if you’re established in your current career, and you want to do something new and exciting, then don’t let all those insecure, resentful, hateful people hold you back with their opinions.  Go do it! Who knows?  You might end up finding your TRUE calling in life.  And if not, then you will at least have stories to tell about your new experience.
