@ Armen

My TV production teacher from high school was just like that. He was a real jerk to everyone who didn't take the subject matter seriously. As a result, he has a good reputation amongst the local TV stations, because his students always make him proud. He weeds out the losers. Thanks for commenting.

@ Jannie

Thanks for chipping in. I think that this is something that a lot of people would agree with me about. However, movies are a lot like sausage. The public likes it, but they don't want to know how it's made.

@ Giovanna

I like your metaphor too. :-) Thanks for commenting!

This is a issue that I see presented in many ways. Businesses tend to cut off layers of managing in their companies to speed things through, as extra needless communications slow things down and limits activity. Your example about movies would probably be a good introduction to film students, so that they don't get the wrong idea about the business. With this as a starting point, people would then be able to assess if they were willing to push through to get their film idea seen by the public, or if their interest is not high enough for this. Many times, we hear about teachers that start off the class with some tough words, and these are probably the best teachers, since they filter out those that would benefit from an alternate class.

On the collaborative note, one might say that collaboration is most beneficial for the leader or most decisive member of the group effort.
