These corporations NEED to adapt. Before too long, people will become too interconnected and wise to the skeletons in the closet, and they will voice their opinions with their dollars. There are certain companies that I flat out will NOT do business with, and my friends give me crap about it, but there are too many struggling small companies out there that would make it worth my while for my business for me to kneel at the altar of the almighty big business. Thanks for commenting!

A question that comes to mind is if a system such as Viacom's is sustainable as people become more interconnected and aware of the practices of large business entities. A likely case is that such businesses will continue to adapt and evolve their presentational structure, in order to stay a step ahead of their consumer's understanding. Having a multitude of resources at one's disposal is an overarching advantage.

@ Eric

The M stands for either "Mainstream" or "Moronic". One of the two. With the way that stations are changing names nowadays to reflect their content, MTV should follow suit. There's nothing remotely musical about it anymore. Thanks for commenting!

@ FupDuckTV

And I hate them too. I touched on Time Warner in my article this month about TMZ. Next on my agenda is Disney, and I have a lot to say about them. :-)

@ Ian

They don't have Nickelodeon in the U.K.? WOW. That shocks me. I thought everyone knew about Nickelodeon. In the 1980s and early 1990's, Nickelodone was untouchable as far as being high quality children's programming. It was awesome. Then they had a few hit shows, and now they lean on those shows and have stopped being innovative and creative. Your kid isn't necessarily better off by missing out, but if he had been born 20 years earlier, then I would say yes.

@ Sheila

Thank you. And yes, I hate feeling owned too. That's a bedrock principle for many of my beliefs. Thanks for commenting.

I assume Nickelodeon is a US kids channel? Or is a maker of kids TV? Sounds like I missed out on something big by not growing up in the US? Is my 6 year old fortunate not to be growing up in the US, given the apparent decline in standards?

This was a brave post Trey! If Viacom don't sue you then Church of Scientology might have a go ... you mentioned one of their heroes in less than glowing terms!

What does the 'M' in 'MTV' even stand for these days? Couldn't possibly be 'Music'... 'Money-Hungry' perhaps?
