Twittley, A Blogger’s Best Friend
Yes, I’m a Twittley Fan!
Last week, I installed a plugin called Twittley at the suggestion of my blogging colleague, Sire. He’s one of my blogging friends who keeps me on my toes and gives me good, honest, feedback, and is just a good honest person who doesn’t BS around when it comes to what he does. I know that he doesn’t fool around when it comes to his blog, which is why he caught my eye when he recommended a new plugin called “Twittley”.
First of all, I am NOT a bandwagon jumper. I don’t sign up for everything that comes around. For both Myspace and Facebook, I didn’t sign up until I was sure that neither one was going to be a passing trend. I signed up for Myspace in 2006, and Facebook in 2008. I didn’t even start using Twitter until very recently! But with Twittley, I knew that I had come across something that is only going to skyrocket with popularity, and I wanted in on the ground floor this time!
Why I’m A Twittley Fan:
The people behind Twittley are some critical thinking folks, because they have solved most of the problems that I have with bookmarking sites such as Digg and Stumble Upon. These are things that have prevented me from investing time into getting onto these social bookmarking sites. For me, it’s more about building a community with my readers and being real with them, instead of just sending traffic from a bunch of brain-dead internet browsers, such as the ones who frequent Digg and Stumble Upon.
One of the main problems that I have with those sites is that it is inconvenient for the blogger, and the reader for that matter, to have the reader taken to another site whenever vote for your article. I mean, come one! Don’t punish them for voting! Make it quick, easy, and painless. With Twittley, the reader never leaves the site! All they do is click the button, and they have instantly shared the joy of your written work to all of their followers! This is accomplished by Twittley’s system of keeping you logged on at all times.

The Power Of This Plugin…
This brings me to my next point. Twittley taps into the powerful userbase of Twitter. Twittley is seamlessly integrated into Twitter, and when a Twitter user Tweets your article, it is seen by each and every one of their followers. And if one of those followers decides to check out the article and retweets it, the link is seen by each and every one of THEIR followers. (And there’s a LOT of Twitter users out there). This instantly makes Twittley more powerful than any other social bookmarking site out their, in my opinion.
Another issue that I have with other social bookmarking sites is the capacity for abuse. Some of those sites count individual votes while Twittley counts unique votes. Some of those sites have simple formulas and are able to be easily manipulated by sites that have a large and loyal fanbase, in other words, the sites who DON’T EVEN NEED THE ATTENTION! Twittley, on the other hand, uses a proprietary algorithm to determine the popularity of each article, and even weighs the users’ karma rating to determine who “deserves” the attention and who doesn’t. I also like how Twittley goes to great lengths to prevent spam abuse.
The Good People At Twittley
Lastly, I’ve heard nothing but good things about the people who work on Twittley. They participate in the blogosphere and engage people in conversation about their product! They care very deeply about what the users think of Twittley, and want to integrate as many features and suggestions as people have! One of them even personally responded to my email and gave me helpful advice for how to configure the button for this site! SO I can personally vouch for their helpfulness.
A lot of bloggers have gotten sucked into a brand war between Twittley and Tweetmeme, claiming that one or the other is superior. Personally, I don’t care to get involved with these sorts of things. Lots of people have benefitted greatly from using Tweetmeme, and I don’t have anything bad to say about it. Twittley simply appeals to me more. What I will say is this: If you are blogging, and not using at least one of these plugins, then I seriously don’t understand why. It’s time to get on board for the next step in social media!
This is simply a review of a plugin that I have tried and liked. I have not been paid or compensated in any way to write this.

I really suck at Twitter right now, am totally addicted to Stumble Upon, but I’m sure I’ll get into tweeting better some day, and hopefully when it’s not already passed its day.

btw, I’m busting a gut at the ads based on your content for arthritic thumb supports & such.
Gotta love the net!

Hi Jannie,
I highly recommend that you try Twittley, because it is catching on like a forest fire, and I believe it’s going to be the next big thing. I didn’t jump into tweeting either, and I still don’t spend a lot of time doing it, so I understand what you mean.
I guess it’s feasible that people might end up at my site looking for a cure to a swollen thumb, so I don’t mind the ads too much.
Who knows, maybe I could offer my own line of Swollen Thumb Entertainment brand Arthritic Thumb Supports? lol.

Firstly I would like to thank you for the linkluv and secondly I would like to congratulate you on an excellent post. You managed to portray the benefits of Twittley so much better that I did in my original post. If I didn’t already have it I would have installed it straight away after reading this post.

Don’t mention it. And thanks for the praise. I want people to try this plugin out, because I think that it’s a great thing. Thanks for the comment!

Well, I do believe you hit the nail on the head there pal… Twittley certainly is (in my opinion) going to skyrocket and I’m definitely glad I’m on the ground floor as well.
I’m also glad that I have built a sort of “friendship” with the creators of the Twittley system! The guys over at Twittley are great people and they genuinely care about their users (which is hard to find anymore)

You may have actually convinced me to try Twitter and Twittley. I’m not a bandwagon-er either – hell, sometimes I avoid things simply because they are so popular (yeah, I’ve never seen “Titanic” or “Forrest Gump” just on principle).
Thanks for the honest, no-holds-barred opinion.

Hey Trey,
Thanks for the great post. I’m totally sold, so job well done! My favorite part is that readers don’t have to leave my site (all eight of them!) to vote for my article. Awesome!
Honestly I continue to have trouble understanding Stumble, etc. Now I just may never have to!
I also appreciate all the detail you put into this post, tight writing, great content. Thanks again.

@ Sire
That’s cool. Maybe I chose the wrong word.
(For those who don’t know, I MAY have called him evil in his blog comments… lol)
@ Josh
Thanks for dropping by! I agree with you about the creators. I probably wouldn’t have written this article if they weren’t that way. Great plugins are a dime a dozen these days, but it really impressed me how involved Joel and Goran are with Twittley!
@ Trina
No prob. There’s a lot of uses for Twitter, and Twittley makes those uses more powerful. Just about anyone can benefit from this. Thanks for looking!
@ Midd13m4n
I’m the same way. I refused to go see Titanic, because I felt that it didn’t need my money at the time. And you can check my archives, I don’t throw praise around very often for plugins. Thanks for checking it out!
@ Audra
Not a problem. Thank you for reading! I’m doing this as a service to the guys who made the button, as well as my blogging colleagues, who need to jump onto this and strike while the iron is hot. Right now, Twittley isn’t super crowded, so it’s not impossible to get on the front page, but that may change once people realize how cool this lil’ button is.
14 July 2009 at 6:01 pm
Hi Trey – You are absolutely right about making things easy for your readers. When I am reading blogs I’m much more likely to “vote” for it when a button is right there in front of me. This seems like a nice little plugin. Thanks for the recommendation.

I totally agree with you there! In fact, I’ve had articles I submitted make it to the front page several times already!

Hi Trey
I am going to have to look into twittley, I have seen my other blog friends with the tweet button on their post, and I never knew what program they use. So thanks for the tip.
By the way, big hello to Sire

@ Amanda
We, the internet generation, are very much into quick results, and we all have A.D.D. If we have to waste a lot of time trying to get something done, it probably won’t happen, which is why I like this plugin. I hope you try it out!
@ Josh
Right on! I hope to get on the front page myself, but seeing as how I got into it later than you, we’ll see how well that works out.
@ Giovanna
Twittley isn’t the only plugin that does this, but it is, in my opinion, the best. Your articles would benefit, because I always feel motivated after I read them, and I think more people should check them out.

Hi and thanks for this wonderful post. I already use Twittley on my site and love it.
My only problem with Twittley is that there are not enough categories and child categories. Would be nice if there were a wider choice.
