We All Have Purpose
One of the hottest industries right now is graphic design. It seems that EVERYONE is getting in on this industry and is offering to draw logos, design webpages, or do just about anything that a client would need, graphic wise. With so many people getting in on this industry, you’d think it would be overly-saturated. But it’s not! Everywhere you look, you can spot a business that BADLY needs a logo revision, or a technically challenged company that could use help desiging a website. Almost every toddler is inspired to draw and color, but somewhere along the way, most of them are taught how not to be creative in that way. Graphic design is just one example of an industry that anyone could enter if they just embraced their natural creative side! It seems that drawing and creativity is a field that many people consider to be their greater purpose in life.
EVERYONE Should Find Their Greater Purpose
I’ve touched on finding your greater purpose before, and this simple ideal is one of the building blocks behind my entire philosophy on life. I believe that EVERYONE should find their greater purpose and to live it. I believe that nobody should be forced to work a job that they hate, or to sacrifice their dreams or their hobbies in order to “get by”. This subject, for me, is one of the most difficult for me to explain, but allow me to try.
The truth is that no one actually wants to do nothing with their life. We are all human beings, and we are all born with the instinct to create. Creation, conception, whatever you want to call it, is a desire that everyone shares.
Now, different people want to create different things. Some people want to create works of art, in the form of paintings, music, or whatever. Some people want to creae laughter, and thus will go to great lengths to make sure that people are smiling when they are around them, and laughing at their jokes. And pretty much everyone wants to create life, which is what makes us sexual. We have all been given a deeply inherited trait that makes us strive to create things that don’t already exist. This is why we exist, to create!
Of course, with almost 7 billion people on this planet, that ends up being a lot of creations over the course of time. How could one person’s creation possibly matter in the grand scheme of things when there’s SO many other people creating at the exact same time. I say that’s a very pessimistic way of looking at things. With so many people on the planet, that gives you almost 7 billion people that might possibly benefit from you creation.
Think about it, if you pour your heart and soul into a creation of some sort, and are truly happy with it, then what are the chances that out of nearly 7 billion people, no one is going to share your enthusiasm for it? I would venture to say that there is NO chance for that whatsover! I would take it a step further and say that no matter what your creation may be, there IS an audience out there for it, and their lives are just waiting to be enriched by it!
The economy
When more people step out and do what they want to do with their lives, the economy prospers. Of course, there’s a lot of bueracratic red tape that is preventing people from starting the businesses that they want to in this day and age, however, when it comes to working as a free agent or an independent contractor, things become a lot simpler, and I feel that more and more people are going to go this route in the future, which will only be beneficial for the world economy.
The economy lives and dies based upon the consumption of products and the exchange of commerce. There is no limit whatsoever to what people will use money to buy. No matter what it is that you’re offering, there’s guaranteed to be someone out there who wants or needs it!
Now, there’s a lot of commodities and services that are quite untapped, and as a result, people who are more than willing to purchase them are unable to, or at the very least, these people are unable to purchas the quality that they wish to. Whenever more people pursue their passion and do what they enjoy doing with their lives, this opens up more opportunities for people to spend money to get what they want, thus putting more money in the pockets of those who are working, who will spend money for the things that THEY want.
My Response To The Pessimists
Of course, some people hold a much more pessimistic view on humanity. They ask “If everybody is doing fun things for a living, then who’s going to do the dirty jobs that nobody wants to do, yet still need to get done?” To those people who say that, I respond by saying that I NEVER said everybody should have “fun” jobs, I said that they should do what they feel a calling for.
Believe it or not, some people actually enjoy jobs such as plumbing, farm work, sanitation engineers, or crime scene investigating. They view themselves as valuable members of society, and take pride in the fact that they are fulfilling a role that other people would balk at. They ENJOY contributing to society in these ways so that other people don’t have to. These jobs probably aren’t in the category of “fun” for the people who do them, but they go home feeling a sense of fulfillment.
Other pessimists would be quick to point out how a lot of people seem to enjoy doing nothing at all, and enjoy living off of welfare, or sponging off of their spouses or family. Supposedely, it’s the complacent people like this who damage my theory that everyone wants to do something with their lives, however I still stand behind my theory. I’d be willing to bet that just about all of those people out there who are doing nothing with their lives have dreams and aspirations of their own, and wishes for what they WOULD like to do. And even if that’s not true, they still have hobbies and enjoyments that could possibly be transferred over to a possible career if they were able to find a way to do so.
Someone watches too much television? They could become a professional writer and write about tv. A housewife who has been out of work for many years due to raising a child? She can go into the culinary business, fixing meals for the elderly or the inept. A young boy spends all of his time playing video games? He could become a game tester, or better yet, program his own games. You see, as long as someone has a passion or a skill, there is some way that they could transfer that into a career.
Simply put, the world would be a much better place if more people sought and embraced their greater purpose. And flat out, the world would be an awesome place if everyone sought and embraced their greater purpose. It’s not always easy to identify what our greater purpose is, but the mere act of LOOKING for it will put us on the road to a much better life and existance.
