Initially when I began blogging I did it with the intention of making tons of money and getting rich quick. Needless to say, that didn't work very well. So I changed my approach and just began blogging about things that I enjoy, and little by little, things picked up and the money started to come in. I agree that passion plays a big role in how well your blog does.

Your tweetley retweet button wouldn't work (I like the tweetmeme one better) but I tried to re-tweet this LOL.

I always recommend new bloggers start on WP.com or other free service to be sure they are even cut out for blogging, it certainly takes determination...

Just want to comment on the "doing it for the right reasons" part, whether you are in it for money or not, you need to have passion for your niche, if you don't you will be spinning your wheels ie: don't enter the MMO (make money online) market if you have never made money online!

@ Ian

The internet is practically a graveyard of dead blogs. So many people start them and lose interest. It's a shame really. And yes, it does take away from those of us who are actually committed to our craft. That's why it's our duty to keep plugging away and make ourselves visable to the readers out there who need our content but don't know we exist yet! Thanks for the comment.

@ Doug

I'm afraid you caught me red handed... lol. Thanks for the praise. And yes, "Johnny" from your Newbies Journey series of posts would have really benefited from reading the harsh truth like this back when he started. Thanks for checking it out!

I know you are talking about me... aren't you Trey? ;)

Really GREAT POST! I wish my "make believe" Johnny would have ready your post before he got started, as he might not have wasted 3 months of his life and maybe he would have chosen a smarter path. Oh well... maybe next time!

I definitely can feel your passion :)

I do find it a bit frustrating sometimes that there are so many poor blogs and sites out there. It makes it more work for the quality sites to get noticed. I guess that's just part of the commitment needed - and if you have the passion for what you're doing then you'll keep at it no matter what happens.
