The blogosphere, as a whole, is changing. Some bloggers can sense this, and are starting to adapt. Other bloggers are completely oblivious to it, and are going to be left behind. I personally believe that the blogging world is going to go through a massive change in 2010.
Of course, I’m not a fortune teller, and I don’t have ESP, so I can’t tell you exactly how it’s changing. I will, however, tell you what I’m seeing:
People are tired of being “sold to”. In this day and age, it’s become more and more obvious which bloggers are in it for the love of the craft, and which ones are just trying to find an “easy” way to make money. People are now starting to migrate to and seek out the blogs that are more “real” and aren’t just a means to a fat pocketbook.
People are tired of having their intelligence insulted. Some of these bloggers project an image that they have it together 100% of the time, and never have any bad days… and if you follow their advice, you can have a perfect life too. Well guess what? We can see through your charade, and we know better than to think that your life is rosy and perfect. It would be SO refreshing to see, just for once, these A-List bloggers come out and admit that sometimes, they get depressed, sad, tired, angry, or just have really bad days like the rest of us do.
People are tired of being preached to. It seems like everyone in the blogging world is trying to change the world. People have different beliefs, and come from different backgrounds, and try to use their mob mentality to persuade visitors that some aspect of their life is immoral or wrong. Well, instead of changing people, these people are leaving and seeking out or building blogs that choose not to judge them just because they listen to different types of music, or because they choose to eat animal products, or whatever.
As I said, the blogosphere is changing, and I intend to evolve alongside it. I don’t ever plan on being an “A-List” Blogger. I don’t ever plan on making six figures a year from blogging. I don’t ever plan on charging people hundreds of dollars to hear my “secrets to success”.
Let me be clear… I am in this game to be successful. I WILL NOT quit until Swollen Thumb Entertainment is a household name all across the globe. And I won’t even quit then! I AM trying to make a living off of this, but I want to do it honestly.
When Swollen Thumb Entertainment puts out a CD, I’m not going to charge you $15 for it like the big record labels do. Those things cost them CENTS to make. AND with profit margins like that, they STILL manage to lose money!
And speaking of CD’s, work is coming along nicely for “Anti-Social: The Album“, which will come out on 3/20/10, no matter what! That’s just the tip of the iceberg, however, as far as my plans for this year goes. I am super excited about 2010, because this is the offi
cial start of the revolution that I am waging on the entertainment industry. I plan on shaking things up quite nicely. But before I can do that, I need to get people on my side. I believe that by the end of this year, I will have the attention of a lot of people on the blogosphere.
The time is now to build a grassroots style network of artists who want to express themselves, and a network of people who are seeking new forms of entertainment.
Great rant bro and I couldn’t have said it better myself, so much of it often seems beyond hysterical to me. Maybe I am just past the point of letting it get on my nerves, I removed around 150 blogs from my reader 2 weeks ago because of annoying things like you mentioned above. Stop trying to sell things to me! haha

Bud, I’m calling you out.
Swollen Thumb as a household name. Honestly. Without any sex tapes of Trey cavorting with Cape G hotties.
Ok, you got you name in my household!

There is nothing more honest and warming than hearing someone talk about how they got ‘it’ wrong (whatever ‘it’ may be) and what they did to get around an obstacle, set back etc.
Not only does this help you to warm to the person, it also gives you an insight on how you may deal with a similar situation if it arises in your life (be that personal, work, blogging etc), or how to avoid the same altogether.
I used to follow quite a few marketers that provided nothing but solid content (mixed with the odd affiliate links) but, in the last year or so, I’ve ended up unsubscribing from a lot of their blogs due to the switch from helpful and informative content to nothing but the latest affiliate product launch.

Karl

lol, interesting comment. I’m not above stirring up some controversy, but I’ll be straightforward and say that there aren’t any sex tapes of me in existence… that I know of.
@ Karl
Yeah, I’ve adopted my strategy slightly over the months. I don’t think that I’ve ever gotten “it” completely wrong, but I’m definitely opening my eyes to ways that I’m wasting my energy.
I’m hearing a LOT of that lately. People are straight up getting tired of a lot of the bloggers that they used to trust. Reason being is that their “rock solid” methods aren’t working as well as they used to. Instead of reinventing themselves, they resort to trying to make more money. They just don’t get it.
Thanks for stopping by!
