The Bloggers Of Tomorrow
There’s a major change happening in the blogosphere. I’ve been talking about this for a few weeks now, on this blog as well as in the comments of other blogs. Regarding the change, I’d say I could feel it in the air, but it’s not in the air, it’s in cyberspace, and like most things that are related to technology, unless you’re in tune with what’s happening, you’re going to be left behind… fast.
Let me put it this way, the internet continues to evolve. How many of you remember what the internet was like in 1995? There was no YouTube, There was no Facebook. Hell, there wasn’t even a MySpace. In those days, the idea of being able to share music online was cutting edge. The internet was a much different place back then. Just read this newspaper article, published in 1995 regarding the future of the internet!
My point is that the internet has changed drastically in the past 15 years, and it’s still continuing to change. 15 years from now, it’s going to be completely different from what it is now. Where will it be in 15 years? I don’t have any idea whatsoever. I don’t know what direction the internet is going to move in that long from now. I couldn’t even tell you where it’s going to go in the next five years, considering blogging was in it’s infancy five years ago.
However, I do have a pretty good idea of where it’s going in the short term. I can tell you the specific things that I’m starting to notice change about the blogosphere in the year or so that I’ve been blogging. I can tell you that the bloggers of yesterday are quickly becoming obsolete, and that a new breed of bloggers are emerging and I predict that these “Bloggers of Tomorrow” are going to be main event on the internet within a few years.
These “Bloggers of Tomorrow” have the following characteristics:
They Are In Tune With The Blogosphere
Some bloggers, including most of those who “claim” that they earn six figures from blogging, are really only concerned with one thing: themselves. They don’t care what other bloggers are doing, unless they can “monetize” it in some way, and socially, they are completely unapproachable… unless they can “monetize” their relationship with you.
The Bloggers of Tomorrow don’t play that game. They don’t see the world as dollar signs. They blog for the fun of it. They use social media tools such as Twitter and Facebook to actually INTERACT with people instead of using it as a medium to broadcast their opinions and as a way of spamming people with paid links like some other bloggers do.
They Share HONEST feedback
A lot of people have the wrong idea about blogging. They spend a lot of time on big name blogs and leave sugar coated comments, such as “This was such a wonderful post! This was exactly what I needed to hear! Blah blah blah” and continue to kiss ass in a hope that the big name blogger will reciprocate and come visit their blog. In other words, so many bloggers think that they can kiss ass and build traffic to their sites by handing out empty compliments.
The Bloggers of Tomorrow know that the greatness of blogging relies on the COMMUNICATION of bloggers. People of different backgrounds, all over the world coming together to exchange ideas and peacefully debate various topics. It truly is a beautiful thing, and that’s why the Bloggers of Tomorrow will give a blogger honest feedback. If he doesn’t like what was written, he’ll explain why… but he’ll do it in a peaceful, diplomatic way, and in a way that remains respectful of the person who took the time to write the article.
They Are REAL
What do I mean when I say that a blogger is real? Well, for one thing, you can get to know the blogger simply by reading their articles. Their personalities, their lifestyles and their philosophies will shine through their writing. Their character will leap up off of the webpage in the form of their words and sentences, and you will get to know the writer, simply by reading what they write!
You might think that all writing is this way, and to a certain extent, it is. However, when it comes to the real bloggers, there is one major difference. They are AT EASE when they write. They are themselves, and aren’t trying to project any kind of image, except for the truth of their personality. And the personality that shines through their writing is their true self, completely at ease with what they are doing.
Simply put, The Bloggers of Tomorrow aren’t afraid to be themselves when they sit down and write. They aren’t afraid to open up and share with the world what they are feeling, thinking, and doing with their lives. They are unapologetic about who they are and what they do. People who visit their sites can either take them or leave them for who they are.
Not to say that these bloggers are stuck up. Far from it, in fact. These bloggers will interact with the people who visit their sites, and will eventually peacefully debate any differences that their visitors have with them. They will calmly and intelligently explain why they feel the way that they do about whatever the issue is, and in turn will often garner the respect of the people who visit their blog.
But The Bloggers Of Tomorrow Live In The Present
The question I want to ask you is whether or not you are a Blogger of Tomorrow, or if you are firmly stuck in the past. What are your motivations for sitting down and writing your articles, day after day, week after week, month after month, and year after year?

Do you want to get rich and quit your job? Consider the fact that there are billions of blogs in existance and very few of them (probably in the hundreds) have been successful enough for the bloggers to quit their day jobs from. Consider that for most of the bloggers who become successful required months and sometimes years of hard work. Also consider that most of the people who make good money blogging do so because of their love for blogging itself.
Do you want to be famous? If you have delusions of grandeur that blogging will bring you, then you are firmly stuck in the past. You’re stuck in the 00′s. You’re becoming obselete, and it’s time for you to join the new decade, the enlightenment if you will.
It’s time for you to start being REAL with your blogging. It’s time for you to become a Blogger Of Tomorrow.
.
Do you agree? Disagree? Would you like to take your day to day frustrations out on a total stranger who writes on a blog? If the answer to any of these questions is “yes” then by all means, leave a reply!

So, I’m not the only one seeing this change then. I’ve noticed it for a little while. There seems to be a shift in the blogosphere. I’m not sure if it will last or how far it will go, but I know that it’s actually a good thing.
Those ass lickers are the ones holding it back, and like you said they only care for themselves anyway. Most of them will probably fall of the radar once they realize they’re not getting noticed by the ones they’re fawning all over.
I’ve noticed a major shift in the blogs I follow. I used to read a lot of blogs dedicated to affiliate marketing. 9 out of 10 went from sharing great content mixed with the odd affiliate promotion to nothing more than promoting affiliate products in every single post.
I don’t even mean in a subtle way, I mean a whole post dedicated to why you should by something (cause it will make you rich) posts. These were the same guys telling you, on the one hand, provide value through helpful content and, on the other hand, not doing what they preached.
Most of these blogs have reduced the number of posts they write, still only do promos, and I am glad to say, their readership seems to be dropping all the time.
Welcome to the new age.

I agree things are changing, and even more than you elude to in your article. If you don’t pay attention, it could pass you by….

@ Sire
No, you’re not the only one. A lot of fellow bloggers are talking about it. It’s on the tip of everyone’s tongue, and I want people to start being more vocal about it. Say it with me: “No more greedy bloggers!”
LOL @ “ass lickers”. That’s a very harsh thing to call those people. And I thought I was being harsh when I labeled them “ignorant”.
@ Karl
I know exactly what you mean! I am so tired of reading blogs that tell you to “give valuable content”. And then they turn around and try to sell you something. I guess some people have forgotten how to make it in the real world, and are trying to squeeze as much juice out of the blogging lemon that they can!
@ Keith
Yeah, things are changing drastically. I just didn’t want to be overly dramatic in my article. lol.
I think you called it as far as where blogging is going, but I’m not actually sure blogging didn’t start that way also. I’m remembering when I first hit the “real” internet around late 1995 and seeing blogs, mainly written by women and mainly true life stories, almost diaries in a sense for the most part. Somewhere along the line, men picked up on it and started to dominate, and most of them were the guys who had figured out they could make money online, and serious money as well. Those were the visionaries, for sure.
But somewhere along the way, they forgot their roots and their own writings, and that’s when things turned. At times the backlash is quite evident, but only from folks who have been writing at least a year or so and have visited many other blogs and realized that they really like having someone pay attention to them and feeling like they’re an equal instead of being talked at, even if they might be learning something along the way.
So, we just might be heading back towards where it originally was; I’m not mad at that either.

Well said Trey. I agree totally, there is a great new crop of bloggers that are leading the change towards the future. Real bloggers will rise to the top.
Tycoon Blogger ´s last blog ..Are you part of the blogging revolution?
@ Mitch
Hey, thanks for the awesome reply!
Yeah, I’m aware of the humble nature regarding the origin of blogging. That only adds fire to my intensity, that these people took something so pure and turned it into a lifeless, blood sucking venture.
Now don’t get me wrong… there’s nothing wrong with making money. After all, I DO have Adsense on my blog as well, but my energy goes into my content. That’s where I focus. I figure that as long as I spend 95% of my energy on the content, then the money will come when the time is right. Of course, other bloggers don’t see it this way, and are so greedy that their content suffers.
And you’re very right about the year timeline. That’s about the time when I realized I wanted interaction instead of being talked at. The number of blogs I visit nowadays is drastically lower than it was several months ago for that reason. That reminds me, I haven’t been to yours in a while, but I went ahead and added yours to my Feedly so that I can get all of your posts. Thanks again!
@ Tycoon Blogger
You’re damn right we’re going to rise to the top! It’s a whole new year, and things are going to get interesting because the A-List bloggers are going to start to see a revolution of sorts. They will have to either evolve or die.
To be fair though, we all in some way resemble the bloggers of the past, as you put it. Who doesn’t know how hard it is when you’re just starting out? I’m personally going through it at the moment lol. You want to do anything you can to get your name and your blog out there. It’s a dog eat dog world and you need to do certain things to make it.
And for a lot of people, their blog is their main source of income. Would you blame a businessman for doing the same? They do need to put food on the table.
Don’t get me wrong though, I agree with what you’re saying…but a part of me just wanted to play the devil’s advocate
haha.

@ O2O
I disagree. The world may be “dog eat dog”, but I’ve found that the blogosphere is quite accommodating and not very competitive at this point in time. There are quite a few bloggers who view what they do with an abundant mindset, feeling that there’s enough success to be had by everyone who is willing to make things happen!
And most of the people that I’m criticizing don’t have their blog as their main source of income. The ones that do make most of their money from their blogs are in a position to where they don’t need to kiss ass.
And it’s all good. I don’t mind when people disagree with me. It keeps me on my toes. lol
Trey,
This reminds me of a concept I had in my econ class last year. Of course I’m no expert, but it’s the concept of scarcity…that what people want exceeds the limited resources that are available. While I don’t particularly think this applies to the blogosphere, some bloggers could have this mind set.
Do you by any chance happen to know the percentage of bloggers who’s primary income is their blog?
But I think we should all try to help each other out tho, we all need to stick together
haha
