Let me just start by saying that yes, I indentify with the label “Libertarian” and I’m quite comfortable with that. However, when it comes to thinking about my country, I think for myself, and I don’t see the need to bring politics into every single concept. Remember that before you write your reply.
A Country Full Of Posers
The United States of America. Born in 1776, and started to die… in 2008. That is a scientific fact. Just because the country and the name still exists doesn’t mean that the principles are still there. The consensus behind the meaning of the word “American” has changed drastically over the past century. The ideal of the “American Dream” has changed dramatically over the years. The idelology behind being an American has been so corrupted over the years, it just seems that at this point, America has completely lost her way!

Ahem, the United States of America has completely lost her way. America Ferrera has been lost from day one.
Now, I’m sure your first response is that if I don’t like America, then I can leave. I’d like to point out the hypocrisy behind that statement, because the very first amendment guarantees me freedom of speech! Everyone has that right, because everyone deserves to have their opinions heard, and not stifled or censored. I love this country, or should I say, I love what this country used to be.
Our Government Is Too Big!
When the forefathers founded this country, they had envisioned a small government, one that couldn’t get big enough to threaten the common people. This is how the current government is. It’s powerful enough to suppress us, but they keep us docile by pretending to engange in democracy. Unfortunately, the concepts of capitalism have ruined the U.S.A. This country has basically made a fiscal policy out of spending money that we don’t have, relying on foreign countries to foot the bill.

For example, aside from the stereotype of this country owing money to China, Amercia owes $585 billion to Japan, and $307 billion to the United Kingdom. This is unacceptable. We went to war with those countries. It’s a little difficult to build respect amongst the world when you end up being their bitch after going to war with them.
And speaking of other countries, we have troops stationed in over 150 countries, with over 700 U.S. bases on this planet. This is putting an even larger financial strain on us, and is only ensuring our eventual economic collapse. It would be nice to be “Big Brother” to all of these countries if we were even able to take care of ourselves, but the fact is that the U.S. Government and the Military has gotten way too large, and needs to be scaled back.

Hi Trey
I am not American but it seems when America sneezes we in Australia catch a cold lol So I wanted to come over and see what this post was about.
We are bombarded with American sitcoms and your movies too so your culture sadly is infusing our own. And lots of American news stories; so you could say we are up with what is happening in your country.
Watching as America tries to still believe in itself but in reality seeing its demise! Sad but true I do believe, so I would agree with your relections on your country.
Will be interesting to see what eventuates with your economy in 2011 and if the US still stays in so many countries when the debt keeps rising at home!

Hi Patricia,
Thank you so much for commenting on my article. I’ve been having trouble getting discussions going, mostly because I seem to be listed as spam for a lot of spam blockers. (Which is BS, because I NEVER leave a comment unless I feel that I’m giving an honest comment, and not just plugging my site, but I digress)
I can definitely understand the feeling that America is spreading her culture around the world. Even though I believe very strongly in the ideals of this country, I still have a lot of respect for the other cultures in the world. I have a strong desire to travel to Germany, Scotland, Japan, China, and even Australia to learn about your fine countries.
And yes, America is upon its demise. A lot of people want to blame George Bush or Barack Obama, but I believe that these presidents are just a reflection of where our society is. It’s the people’s responsibility in this country to keep the country afloat, but we have become lazy and complacent, and so the government has taken over, and is slowly but surely destroying this once proud nation.
Sadly, I must agree Trey; this country is dumpster diving. And not just in the political arena, although that seems to be fueling the general demise. I am deeply saddened by what I’m seeing. I’ve stopped watching television because it’s so full of left wing liberal garbage that I don’t want my thinking polluted by it. Is recovery possible, or are we so far into the dumpster that we can’t climb back out? I don’t know. I hope and pray that recovery is possible, but just changing the political situation won’t do it. Society itself has become corrupt. Short of a cataclysm I don’t know what will restore social sanity.
Well that’s my 2 cents worth. Now I’m off to read some of your other posts. Thanks for speaking up!
